Charbone conclude final negotiations for green hydrogen facility in Québec
Charbone Hydrogen has concluded final negotiations for the first phase of its green hydrogen facility in Québec.
The company has executed a special construction agreement based on a hybrid model between its wholly owned subsidiary, Charbone Hydrogène Québec (Charbone QC) and Construction Sorel.
Securing this agreement was the final item included in Charbone QC’s construction budget for a fast-track components integration, pre-construction activities and site construction of its first green hydrogen facility in Sorel-Tracey, Québec.
The parties decided on a hybrid construction model for the agreement to ensure that the teams will prioritise collaboration and promote a sense of ownership and teamwork as the parties work together to achieve desired on-site results within the timeframe and budget associated.
Dave Gagnon, Chairman and CEO of Charbone, said, “Construction Sorel is an established local company that works on all kinds of industrial projects.
“Charbone’s strategy is to produce its green hydrogen from modular and scalable facilities allows us to fast track the project in a timely and cost-efficient manner which will shorten the installation and commissioning process and allow us to accelerate our first kilogramme production.”
Last year, Charbone Corporation signed an agreement with Superior Propane to provide green hydrogen to commercial and industrial customers in Canada.
Under the letter of intent, Charbone will provide Superior with green hydrogen sourced from its Sorel-Tracey facility and therefore allowing the supply of hydrogen to customers in the mining, power generation, transportation and industrial sectors.
The Québec Government released its Green Hydrogen and Bioenergy Strategy last year to accelerate the production, distribution and use of green hydrogen and bioenergy.
The province strives to replace fossil fuels and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in pursuit of climate targets.
The Government hopes to improve electrolyser technologies and reduce costs of renewable electricity to make a profitable and competitive green hydrogen production sector.
